What do Robert Viney and Malcolm Hutson have in common? Their utter dedication to providing clients with the best possible service, over 40 years each commitment to the insurance industry, the very diverse range of clients they have assisted over the years, a meticulous attention to detail and dislike of taking short cuts are just some commonalities. Both have owned and operated successful brokerages for over 30 years and believe that building positive relationships are at the centre of their success. Good friends personally and professionally, they have now partnered with Insurance House.
Rob brings with him specialist expertise in recreation and general aviation insurance. He has provided Aviation Insurance broking advice for 30 years and with hull and liability cover to members of Recreation Aviation Australia over the past ten years. Indeed, his son became a pilot as a result of his association with aviation insurance.
It came about when Rob invited a client, the “Squadron Leader of The Roulettes” to speak about training under pressure to the under 19 Premier Division team at Marcellin College, where Rob was the coach. Rob’s two son were players, one subsequently gave up his mechanical engineering Uni course to become a pilot, inspired by The Roulettes story, he now has an aerobatics license! Not exactly the intended outcome!
Being a powerful advocate for his clients, he believes it’s equally important to identify what the policy doesn’t contain. Rob has used this information to successfully argue claims with insurers on behalf of his clients. His depth of technical knowledge, experience and diplomacy are highly sought-after skills Insurance House will now benefit from. Rob has had many of the same clients since he first put up his shingle, indeed he handles the business of multiple generations in some families.
Malcolm commenced his insurance career in 1979. His knowledge, experience and empathy are much valued by his clients across a range of industries and risks. There is nothing professionally he enjoys more than adding value to his clients by sharing his knowledge and insights and offering informed recommendations. His clients are loyal - they know they can trust Malcolm and his team.
Robert has taken up the role as Branch Manager for the Adelaide and Blackburn offices while Malcolm will move to the Blackburn office as Senior Relationship Manager. What most excites both gentlemen about the merge, is an increased ability to deliver a broader range of solutions to their clients eg. workers compensation, life products and construction risk management expertise to name a few.
The merge with Insurance House expands their access to a range of digital, IT, finance, marketing and compliance resources to handle many of the important tasks. As is often the case, these administrative chores often took Robert and Malcolm away from what they love and do best– attending to clients’ needs.
Malcolm’s wife Sophie and Rob’s wife Pam has also work with them. Fun fact, Malcolm actually met Rob and his wife Pam in 1978 while working with both of them at Legal and General! Whilst Pam had insurance experience Sophie had previously run her own busines for 25 years giving her a strong understanding of the needs of small business.
Of equal importance to the pair is the improved work life balance this merge offers them. Both are dedicated family men. It’s now easier for them to take well deserved holidays. For Rob too, he no longer needs to worry about who will look after his clients when he is away and he can spend more time with his family, water skiing at Moama on the Murray.
Insurance House is excited to have the expertise of these two in the fold and look forward to a fruitful future.
